After a year and a half of a tough period of time, ‘Freedom Day’ in Scotland arrives as the country moves beyond Level 0 coronavirus restrictions at midnight which is three weeks after England had done. Most restrictions are removed from today, people finally have got their freedom back!

Legal requirements for physical distancing and gatherings have been removed and all venues, including nightclubs, are now able to reopen. Some measures, such as the requirement to wear face coverings indoors in public places and on public transport, will stay in place though.

Under the new rules, double-vaccinated adults and all children will no longer need to self-isolate if they are a close contact of someone with coronavirus so long as they are asymptomatic and provide a negative PCR test. (You do not need to self-isolate as a close contact if you are fully vaccinated)

We are at an encouraging stage and the lifting of restrictions is undoubtedly due mainly to the success of the vaccination program. We definitely feel more confident getting through the pandemic and that we can win the Covid battle soon. However, we should still be aware that the virus is not gone, and that we need to learn to live with it and be sensible.
